Fredonia’s Pucci-Schaefer leads at diving states after first cut
WEBSTER — Three Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association divers qualified for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Girls Diving Championships at Webster Aquatic Center on Friday afternoon and after five rounds that trio has advanced past the first round of cuts.
The trio didn’t just sneak in either, the girls shined and established themselves in the top 15 of the leaderboards.
Fredonia senior Elizabeth Pucci-Schaefer picked up right where she left off in her junior campaign in which she finished third, leading the pack with a whopping 228.35 points. The future Nittany Lion currently holds a 4.8 point lead over Morgan Davey of Shenendehowa with 223.55 points and Manhasset’s Victoria Wang comes up in third with 219.2.
Frewsburg’s Elayna Pitts follows Pucci-Schaefer in the dive order and she continued to follow her right into the top 10, posting a five-dive score of 205.10, just ahead of Pittsford’s Jamie Kotalik with 204.65.
Not only has Fredonia’s Leah Marsh stuck around past the first cut, but the senior has posted a score of 199.60 for the No. 13 position going into the next three dives. Marsh follows right behind the event’s favorite Kaelyn Katchuk of Owego Free Academy with 200.25, while the competition’s 2-seed Madison Morris of Maine-Endwell is currently in 8th with 205.60.
