Hilliker captures eighth straight Wednesday Travel League win
HARBORCREEK, Pa. — Josh Hilliker extended his record-setting Wednesday Travel League season, winning his eighth straight event with the low round of 74 (37-37). Hilliker’s 23rd win of the season was also the 46th of his career, passing Paul Olkowski for fourth place on the all-time wins list. He now only trails Ed Tofil (109), Robert Calph (70) and Al Etzel (61) for career wins.
Jeff Nelson and Dave Wallace tied for second place with 81s. Nelson also went over 1,000 career points. The B Flight winner was John Waterman. The Senior Flight champion was Tony Destro. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Dave Franklin, who shot 93, the lowest round ever recorded by a Commissioner’s Award winner.
Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight, Nelson (No. 2), Wallace (Nos. 7, 12), Ken Kaus (Nos. 8, 11), Tom Destro (No.15), and Phil Hopkins (No.17); B Flight, Pete Pinkoski (Nos. 3, 18), Franklin (No. 4), Waterman (Nos.11, 13), Dave Criscione (No. 14) and Gary Haase (No.17).
Closest to the pin were Bob North (No. 5), Hilliker (Nos. 8, 15), and Kaus (No. 11). Winners of the steeplechase were North in A Flight and Pat Weaver in B Flight.
Top point winners were Kaus (43), Waterman (31) and Hilliker (22). Season points leaders (through 34 events) are: 1.Hilliker (1, 174), 2 .Wallace (493), 3. Calph (463), 4. Pinkoski (435), 5.
