Pucci-Schaefer has firm lead on first headed into finals
WEBSTER — Fredonia senior Elizabeth Pucci-Schaefer has been pretty flawless through eight dives at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Girls Diving Championships.
After the first round of cuts she held a modest lead of 4.8 points, but in the next round the future Nittany Lion started running away with the competition. Now through eight dives she has posted a score of 367.80 which has her a whopping 23.25 points in front of Victoria Wang of Manhasset and now the state title is in sight.
Pucci-Schaefer will compete in a final three dives looking for the top spot on the podium, but she will not be doing it alone as fellow Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association divers Fredonia’s Leah Marsh and Frewsburg’s Elayna Pitts reached the final round with scores of 304.75 and 310.05, respectively.
Marsh in 15th place is less than a point behind Avery Schuhmacher in 14th and Pitts is in 11th place with just a half of a point separating her from the top 10.
