Waterman nets 2, Davidson post shutout as D/F Steelers edge Rochester 5-0
The Dunkirk/Fredonia Steelers varsity hockey team earned their first league victory of the season by defeating visiting Rochester/Wayne County on Sunday at Steele Hall.
After a scoreless opening period, the Steelers struck first when Brayden Bugaj assisted Alex Madurski on the game’s first goal at 7:31 in the second period.
The Steelers held the lead as they headed into the closing period as the offense began to find its rhythm. In the third, Blake Waterman, scored the Steelers’ second goal, assisted by
Joey Worczak and Izak Wojcinski. Ayden Wronski tallied an unassisted goal followed by Brady Crawford, assisted by Caleb Kimmerly and Landon Trippi. Waterman closed out the game by scoring his second goal of the game, assisted by Worczak and Wojcinski once again.
Starting goalie Lucas Davidson turned away all 23 shots he faced and earned his first shutout of the season.
Dunkirk/Fredonia currently stands at 1-1 overall in the WNYHSCHL White Division. The Steelers next game Saturday when they host the ELPS Raiders at 6 p.m. in Steele Hall.
