Bugaj, Waterman, Wronski lead Steelers to victory
The Dunkirk/Fredonia Steelers varsity hockey team added its second tally in the win column on Saturday evening, outlasting visiting Orchard Park 7-5 in the WNYHSCHL White Division.
The Steelers opened the scoring in the first period when Emmett Williams assisted Brayden Bugaj at the 15:14 mark to take the early 1-0 lead. Orchard Park answered quickly to knot the score at 1-1, ending the evenly played period.
The Steelers picked up goals by Amato Fadale, assisted by Blake Waterman, and two goals from Ayden Wronksi, assisted by Waterman and Marcus Crane, to
open up the game throughout the second period.
Wronski’s second goal of the period came with just four seconds remaining.
Orchard Park added one in the second as well, making the score 4-2 heading into the intermission.
In the third, both teams traded goals, each team scoring three apiece. Steelers goals were recorded by Jack Frame, assisted by Max Hazelton; Bugaj, assisted by Waterman; and then a Waterman collected an empty-netter.
Starting goalie Braiden Truby turned away 25 of the 30 shots he faced and earned his first win of the season in his return to the Steelers.
Frame’s and Fadale’s goals were both the first of their varsity career.
The Steelers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Lakeshore Hockey Arena to play Team Rochester at 7 p.m.
