Putney hits 7 3-pointers as Fredonia reaches final

CLARENCE — Ashton Putney hit seven 3-pointers on his way to 24 points as Fredonia beat Park 61-55 in the opening round of the Clarence Tournament on Friday.

Luca Gullo added 17 points for the Hillbillies, who led 16-10 after the first quarter and 38-34 at halftime.

RJ Koopman handed out 10 assists, Colin Luce had a team-high six rebounds and Putney had a team-high three steals for Fredonia, which will take on host Clarence in today’s championship game.

WILDCATS RALLY IN FOURTH

SHERMAN — Three players had 13 points apiece as Sherman beat Maple Grove 61-52 in nonleague play.

Jacob Ferranto had 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals; Nolan DeKoning had 13 points and four assists; and Troy Chambers also had 13 points for the Wildcats, who trailed 47-40 before a 21-5 fourth quarter.

Liam Colburn had 21 points and seven rebounds; Aiden Dahlberg had 13 points and eight rebounds; and Camden Lombardo had 10 rebounds and four assists for the Red Dragons.
