Westfield, Fredonia, Silver Creek boys post wins

WATERFORD, Pa. – Carson Swanson scored more than 30 points for the second straight day to highlight Westfield’s 76-32 victory over Northwestern at the Fort LeBoeuf Basketball Tournament on Saturday.

Swanson finished with 31 points, less than 24 hours after scoring 35 in a 68-65 setback to Erie First Christian Academy in a first-round game.

Swanson also collected eight steals and six assists, while Zach McGuire chipped in 15 points for the Wolverines (1-1), who led 47-13 at halftime.

BILLIES PREVAIL

FREDONIA – Ashton Putney scored 17 points and hauled down six rebounds to help Fredonia dispatch Depew 53-43 in the CCAA-ECIC Challenge at SUNY Fredonia.

Colin Luce contributed 13 points and seven boards, and RJ Koopman chipped in 12 points and eight assists for the Hillbillies (1-0), who outscored Depew 16-6 in the fourth quarter.

WHITE, BRADY LEAD WAY

CATTARAUGUS – Simon White and Brady Eick scored 23 points apiece to spark Silver Creek to a 74-36 nonleague victory over Cattaraugus-Little Valley.

White was also credited with 10 steals, seven rebounds and four assists, while Eick collected seven steals and five rebounds for the Black Knights, who outscored the Timberwolves 45-12 in the second half.

TROJANS FALL SHORT

FREDONIA — Chase Harnett scored 29 points for the Trojans in the CCAA-ECIC Challenge, but it was not enough as Southwestern fell to Lackawanna 66-59.

Michael Moore paced the Steelers with 13 points and Tyrone Clark Jr. pitched in 12 to outpace Southwestern for the victory.

Landon Hooks added 14 points for Southwestern.

SHERMAN — Baya Oehlbeck scored 13 points and dished four assists to lead Sherman past Fredonia in nonleague girls basketball action on Saturday.

Kelsey Wagner also scored 13 for Sherman, Emmersen Crawford grabbed six rebounds and dealt five assists, Jayne Chambers hauled in seven boards and Teagan Grotto made five steals.

Ashlynn Delcamp led Fredonia with 7 points, while Naomi Muck grabbed seven rebounds and two steals, Juliana Snyder had five boards and Piper Walnicki pitched in two assists.
