Houghton hosts Varsity Select meet

HOUGHTON — Charles Sundquist left Houghton University on Saturday feeling pretty good about himself.

Representing Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/ Randolph, he recorded a first-place finish in the weight throw, recording a distance of 58 feet, 1 inch for the top performance among area athletes at the Section VI Varsity Select No. 1 indoor track & field meet.

Second-place finishes were recorded by Johnee Thomas of Dunkirk in the 300 meters (36.12), Cody Kent of Falconer/Maple Grove//Frewsburg/Randolph in the 3,200 meters (10:04.95); the Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph boys 4×800-meter relay (8:49.47); Grace Lennon of Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph in the 300 meters (43.81); Isabella Milks of Salamanca in the high jump (5-0); and Javiana Matos of Jamestown in the weight throw (41-5.75).

Finishing in third place were Jorge Rivera Jr. of Jamestown in the high jump (5-8) and Ryanna Brady of Salamanca in the 3,000 meters (11:21.91), while Leah Mays of Dunkirk placed fourth in the 1,000 meters (3:15.56) and Elizabeth Saunders of Fredonia finished fourth in the high jump (4-10).

Finally, the fifth-place finishers were Owen Erlandson of Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph in the 1,000 meters (2:51.38); Brighton Lumia of Jamestown in the 55 meters (8.49); the Dunkirk 4×400-meter relay (3:47.45); Riley Smith Mallon of Dunkirk in the shot put (42-9); London Hamilton of Jamestown in the 3,000 meters (11:48.33); Sydney Simmons of Falconer/Maple Grove/Frewsburg/Randolph in the 55-meter hurdles (9.41); and Callie Draggett of Fredonia in the shot put (31-7.75).
