Westfield Academy & Central School senior Danny Bratton has announced his commitment to continue his academic and athletic careers at Houghton University.

A standout baseball player, Bratton has been a starter for the Wolverines varsity baseball team since his freshman year.

Bratton plays multiple positions at shortstop, third base and as a right-handed pitcher. A consistent top-of-the-order hitter, he has been a major force on the mound throughout his high school career. Bratton’s leadership qualities have also been recognized, having served as co-captain of the varsity team since his sophomore year.

Beyond high school, Bratton has honed his skills with the East Coast Pipeline baseball program out of Buffalo since his sophomore year.

“I am very excited to continue my journey at Houghton University,” said Bratton. “My family has a strong connection to Houghton, with my sister, Bella, currently attending. I have been impressed by the university’s commitment to Christian education and its powerful sense of community. I also had great conversations with baseball head coach Reitnour about Houghton’s dedication to a successful baseball program that focuses on developing talented players as well as strong, Christian men. I am looking forward to becoming a Highlander.”

On Jan. 15, at a celebration of his decision, Bratton expressed his gratitude to all the coaches who supported his baseball aspirations throughout his career, from Little League to Westfield Academy. He extended a special thanks to Westfield varsity assistant coach Donny Paddock, who has been his baseball coach since he was 9 years old. He also acknowledged Tony Ballistrea of the East Coast Pipeline for his invaluable guidance in his development.

“I knew this day would come back when his father and I coached him in Little League,” Coach Paddock said at the ceremony. “He has worked tremendously hard to become the player he is today. Always the first to practice and games and the last to leave. Danny is also a valuable leader, on and off the field. I wish Danny much success at Houghton. They’re definitely getting an all-around ballplayer who will strive to get better day in and day out.”

Bratton will graduate from Westfield in June and begin his studies at Houghton University in August.

Starting at $2.99/week.
