D/F/F’s Krenzer takes 5th in 200 IM at sectionals
Whether it was at the Clarence or Sweet Home high school pools, it made little difference to the Frewsburg/Falconer/Jamestown/Southwestern boys swim team, because the Bears felt right at home in either venue.
Competing in the Section VI Class A championships — Thursday were the preliminaries at Clarence and Saturday were the finals at Sweet Home — the Bears captured six gold, two silver and one bronze on their way to a second-place team finish.
Leading the way was Conner Dean.
The senior captain broke a Sweet Home pool record in the 200-yard individual medley (1:52.55); claimed the 100-yard backstroke (52.71); was a member — along with Grady Moore, Miles Moore and Landon Frederes — on the victorious 200-yard medley (1:35.88) and 400-yard freestyle (3:13.45) relays; and was named the Swimmer of the Meet.
By meet’s end, Dean and Miles Moore took first in all four of the events they entered, the only two swimmers to accomplish that feat. In addition, each of the Bears’ relay times were just off the pool record at Sweet Home, but the clocking in the 200-yard medley relay in the preliminaries on Thursday (1:33.99) is the fastest time in the state and a Clarence pool record.
Miles Moore was also victorious in the 50-yard freestyle (21.28) and the 100-yard freestyle (47.50); and Grady Moore touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly (52.54).
Frederes and Grady Moore placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (53.25) and the 100-yard butterfly (53.42) respectively; and Grady Moore finished third in the 50-yard freestyle (22:05).
In other results from the Frewsburg/Falconer/Jamestown/Southwestern team, Caleb Webster and Logan Johnson, along with Dan Peterson and Michael Rambacher competed in the 200-yard freestyle relay; Johnson scored points in the 100-backstroke and Peterson placed eighth in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles.
Frewsburg/Falconer/Jamestown/Southwestern finished with 265 points, trailing only first-place Orchard Park, which had 333.
Levi Overend and Trent Olson both swam the 500-yard freestyle, and Overend scored additional points in the 200-yard individual medley.
The Dunkirk/Forestville/Fredonia team also competed at the Class A championships, finishing in 13th place with 48 points.
Trenton Krenzer placed fifth in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.36) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.87), and was a member of both the 11th-place 200-yard medley relay (1:58.29) with Solomon Mcknatt, Jimmy Fagan and Nathan Keefe and the 13th-place 400-yard relay (4:05.08) with that same crew.
CLASS C

Behind a strong showing from Kody Howard, Panama/Clymer/Sherman placed third with 241 points.

Conklin also earned a silver in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.33).
Finishing ahead of the Panthers in the team standings were Tonawanda with 421 points and Alden with 320.
