D/F/F’s Krenzer takes 6th in 200 IM

BUFFALO — Frewsburg/Southwestern/Jamestown/Falconer went undefeated in the relays at the Section VI boys swimming state qualifier Wednesday at Erie Community College’s Burt Flickinger Athletic Center.

Frewsburg/Southwestern/Jamestown/Falconer sophomore Landon Frederes, senior Conner Dean, junior Grady Moore and junior Miles Moore won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:34.39, more than 4 seconds faster than second-place Orchard Park.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Dean, senior Daniel Peterson, Grady Moore and Miles Moore finished first in 1:26.42, nearly 3 seconds faster than second-place Clarence.

Finally, in the 400-yard freestyle relay, Dean, Frederes, Grady Moore and Miles Moore took first in 3:08.96, more than 3 seconds faster than second-place Williamsville East.

Individually, Dean and Frederes also came away with event victories.

Dean won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.50 seconds, six-hundredths faster than Williamsville North sophomore Inno Song.

Frederes won the 100-yard backstroke in 53.12 seconds, 1.3 seconds faster than Hamburg junior Mitchell Coen.

Dunkirk/Forestville/Fredonia sophomore Trenton Krenzer was the top local finisher in the 200-yard individual medley with a sixth-place finish in 2:03.52 and in the 100-yard breaststroke with a seventh-place finish in 1:01.86.

Panama/Clymer/Sherman sophomore Kody Howard was third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.49 seconds and Peterson was 10th in 51.39 seconds.

Howard was seventh in the 50-yard freestyle (22.75) and Frederes tied for eighth (22.84).

Frewsburg/Southwestern/Jamestown/Falconer junior Logan Johnson finished 16th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.20) and Panama/Clymer/Sherman eighth-grader Evan Conklin was 24th (1:05.16).

Peterson was 18th in the 50-yard freestyle (23.20).

Panama/Clymer/Sherman’s Howard, junior Gavin Krasa, sophomore Ryan Smith and Conklin finished 24th in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:46.29). Conklin, freshman Nathan Ruch, Smith and Howard took 27th in the 200-yard medley relay (2:01.06).

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships are set for Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8 at Ithaca College.
