Steelers oust Olean in playoffs at Steele Hall
The Dunkirk/Fredonia Steelers began the WNYHSCHL playoffs with a big 4-1 victory over the Olean Eagles at Steele Hall on Tuesday.
After a scoreless first period, the Steelers took a quick lead with back-to-back goals just 12 seconds apart in the second period. Mason Miller first scored unassisted at 11:23 and Amato Fadale followed up with an assist from Alex Madurski at 11:11.
Olean closed the gap in the third period with a goal by Jeff Goodyear, but the Steelers had the answer.
Dunkirk/Fredonia received a late goal from Blake Waterman assisted by Brayden Bugaj and Ryan Wegrzynowski. The Steelers then iced the game with an empty-net goal by Brady Crawford also assisted by Bugaj.
Braiden Truby turned aside 26 shots for the win in net.
The Steelers advance to the next round of the playoffs which will feature a “Best-of-Three” series vs. Jamestown. Dunkirk/Fredonia will host game one of the series at 6:30 tonight at Steele Hall.
Dunkirk/Fredonia will then travel to Jamestown on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at the Northwest Arena.
A third mini-game will be held directly following the completion of Saturday’s game if needed to determine a winner of the series. Admission to all playoff games will be $4 for adults and $3 for students.
