Cardinals, Panthers, Dragons, Pirates advance

RANDOLPH — Skylar Herington scored 16 of her game-high 23 points during a 44-8 first half and No. 2 Randolph beat No. 7 Westfield 69-30 in a Section VI Class C girls basketball prequarterfinal Friday.

Quinn Pence added 13 points and Sadie Steward had 10 for the Cardinals, who will take on No. 3 Frewsburg in the 7 p.m. semifinal Wednesday at Jamestown Community College’s Physical Education Complex.

Steward led Randolph with seven rebounds; Payton Morrison had 9 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots; Pence had five assists and five steals; and Herington had four assists and two steals.

Sydney Hotchkiss led the Wolverines with 8 points and Nahlia Douglas had 7.

LYON HAS BIG NIGHT

PANAMA — Cassie Lyon hit six of Panama’s 13 3-pointers as the third-seeded Panthers beat No. 4 North Collins 83-14 in a Class D quarterfinal.

Kiera Loberg led Panama with 26 points, eight steals and seven assists; Lyon added 20 points, two steals and two assists; and Kaitlyn Horton added 19 points and 11 rebounds.

The Panthers led 34-2 after the first quarter and 49-10 at halftime.

Panama will take on No. 2 Pine Valley in the 7 p.m. semifinal Thursday at Jamestown Community College’s Physical Education Complex.

MAPLE GROVE HOLDS

OFF EAGLES

ELLICOTTVILLE — Claire Price made a 3-pointer and No. 5 Maple Grove added seven free throws during a 10-7 fourth quarter to beat No. 4 Ellicottville 43-36 in a Class C quarterfinal.

The Eagles led 14-9 after the first quarter, but the Red Dragons took a one-point lead at halftime. Entering the fourth quarter, Maple Grove was up 33-29 before the hosts tied the game early in the period.

But the Red Dragons held Ellicottville to just 7 points in the final eight minutes to advance.

Alex Halstrom led Maple Grove with 15 points, including four 3-pointers, to go along with seven rebounds; Price had 11 points and eight rebounds; Morgan Caldwell had 7 points, 12 rebounds and five assists; and Bryanna Cornell had 4 points, 10 rebounds and nine steals.

The Red Dragons will take on No. 8 Franklinville in the 5:30 p.m. semifinal Wednesday at Jamestown Community College’s Physical Education Complex. The Panthers knocked off top-seeded Holland 47-32 in another Friday quarterfinal.

Natalee Leiper led Ellicottville with 15 points and Courtney Marsh added 7.

CLYMER OUTLASTS FORESTVILLE

FORESTVILLE — No. 5 Clymer outscored No. 4 Forestville 15-10 in the fourth quarter to break a 37-all tie and the Pirates beat the Hornets 52-47 in a Class D quarterfinal.

Ava Nyweide led Clymer with 21 points, 14 rebounds and four steals, while Elli Bodamer added 13 points, 11 rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals. Janelle Burchanowski chipped in five rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Pirates.

Carilene Sliwa led Forestville with 32 points, including five 3-pointers, while Ingrid Gibson had 11 points, including three 3-pointers.

The Pirates advance to Thursday’s 5:30 p.m. semifinal at Jamestown Community College’s Physical Education Complex where they will take on No. 1 Sherman.
