Wednesday Travel League hosts first event at Cable Hollow GC
RUSSELL, Pa. — The Wednesday Travel League held its first event of the 2025 season at Cable Hollow Golf Course.
Record-high temperatures and dry conditions led to an earlier than usual start for the league’s 47th season.
Ed Tofil shot the low round of 77, earning his 110th career tour victory, most all-time. Jeff Nelson finished second with 82 and Dave Wallace was third with 85. Tofil led the front nine with an even-par 36 and Wallace led the back nine with 39.
Mike Willoughby was the B Flight winner, giving him 30 career B Flight wins. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioners Award was Lenny Leszkowicz.
United birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Nelson (No. 1), Bob Thompson (No. 3), Tofil (Nos. 4, 6 and 7), Phil Hopkins (Nos. 9 and 10) and Tom Sacilowski (No. 16); B Flight — Willoughby (No. 1), Joe Michalski (Nos. 3 and 9) and Leszkowicz (Nos. 5 and 11).
Closest to the pin were: John Waterman (No. 2), Danny Kubera (No. 5), Michalski (No. 11) and Tofil (Nos. 13 and 17).
Winners of the Steeplechase were: Tofil (A Flight) and Michalski (B Flight).
Top point winners were: Tofil (52), Leszkowicz (32) and Michalski (24).
Season points leaders: 1. Tofil (52), 2. Leszkowicz(32), 3. Michalski (24), 4. Hopkins (12), 5. Sacilowski, Kubera, Willoughby and Waterman (all tied with 8), 9. Nelson and Thompson (4 apiece).
With 52 points, Ed Tofil moved past John Waterman for first place on the All-Time Points List with 6,215.25 career points, 1.5 points more than Waterman.
