Fredonia flag football dominates Amherst 31-6

AMHERST — The Fredonia girls flag football team picked up right where it left off last year and dominated Amherst for a 31-6 nonleague victory on Tuesday.

Freshman Sophia Utegg led Fredonia under center with three passing touchdowns and one rushing score as she went 11 of 17 for 169 yards through the air and ran for 40 yards on five rushes.

Fredonia senior Elizabeth Morris was the top target with 84 yards and a score on three receptions, Megan Ivory also had three catches and a touchdown and Madelyn Polhamus caught one touchdown. Emma Perry had a rushing touchdown for the ‘Billies, but it was Natalia DiPalma leading the ground game with 54 yards on eight rushes.

Juliana Snyder and Mikaela Sciarrino both had interceptions for Fredonia, while Polhamus led the team in flag pulls with nine, Snyder grabbed eight and Ivory managed two sacks.

In the final two minutes of the game the Tigers ruined the Fredonia shutout.

“It’s good to be back,” Fredonia head coach Nick Bertrando stated. “The girls are excited with this squad. We feel we’ve got some talent and we’re going to take it one day at a time to continue to get better.”

Fredonia (1-0) is back in action on Thursday at Depew.
